Topre's silent variants (Type-S on HHKB, silent options on Realforce) add dampening to the slider so the upstroke, normally the louder half of a Topre keystroke, lands quietly. The dome feel is untouched: same 45g swell, same pillowy collapse.

What remains of the sound is a soft 'puc', a whispered cousin of the standard thock. Total travel shortens slightly, which many typists read as extra crispness rather than loss.

The Type-S has become the default HHKB recommendation for open offices and shared spaces: all of the feel that justifies the price, at a volume that does not broadcast it. Ironically, many buyers who came for the silence end up missing the sound.
