Terms & conditions

Last updated: August 12, 2026

These terms cover your use of Keyboard Simulators at keyboardsimulators.com (the "site"). By using the site you agree to them. If you do not agree, please stop using the site.

1. What the site is

The site provides free browser tools for people interested in mechanical keyboards: a switch sound simulator, a keyboard tester, a keyboard builder, typing and rollover tests, plus reference pages about switches, layouts and keycaps. Everything runs in your browser. There are no accounts, no signups, and no usage limits.

2. Switch sounds are simulations, not recordings

This matters, so we state it plainly. The audio on this site is synthesized from each switch's published specifications and its community-documented sound character. It is not a recording of that switch, and it is labeled "simulated" wherever it plays. Real switch sound depends on the board, plate, case, keycaps, mounting style, desk surface, microphone and room. Use our audio to compare switches against each other, not as proof of how a specific switch will sound in your build.

3. Specifications and other information

Switch specifications, layout dimensions, keycap profile data and prices are compiled from manufacturer datasheets and established community sources. Manufacturers revise their products, and community measurements disagree with each other more often than you would hope. We work to keep the data accurate, and we label which force basis a brand publishes, but we cannot guarantee that every figure is current or correct. Verify anything you are relying on for a purchase. Prices shown are rough estimates and are not offers.

4. Acceptable use

You may use the tools freely, including for commercial purposes. You may not:

  • scrape or bulk-download our audio files, data files or generated pages to republish them as your own;
  • attempt to disrupt the site, or use it to attack anyone else;
  • misrepresent our simulated audio as authentic recordings of a product.

Linking to the site, embedding our tester widget with its attribution link intact, and quoting us with credit are all welcome.

5. Ownership

The site's code, written content, keyboard renderings and synthesized audio belong to Keyboard Simulators. Switch, keyboard and keycap brand names are the property of their owners and are used here for identification only, as nominative fair use. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any manufacturer.

6. Content you create

Keyboard builds, colorways, test results and typing scores you create stay in your browser's local storage. Share links encode your build inside the URL itself. Nothing is uploaded to us, so you keep whatever you make, and we have no copy of it. Clearing your browser data deletes it permanently, with no way for us to restore it.

7. Third-party links and advertising

The site may link to retailers and other websites we do not control, and may in future display advertising or affiliate links. Where that happens it will be disclosed, as described in how this site is funded. We are not responsible for the content, products, pricing or privacy practices of any third-party site you reach from here.

8. No warranty

The site is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind. In particular, the keyboard tester reads the key events your browser reports. It cannot see keys handled inside your keyboard's own firmware (Fn layers are the common example), keys your operating system intercepts before the browser, or anything happening at the hardware level. A key that fails here is worth investigating; a key that passes here is not a certification that your keyboard is faultless.

9. Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, Keyboard Simulators is not liable for any loss arising from your use of the site, including purchasing decisions made after using the tools, hardware you conclude is faulty or not faulty, or any indirect or consequential loss. The tools are free, and your remedy if you are unhappy with them is to stop using them.

10. Changes

We may update these terms as the site grows. The "last updated" date above always reflects the current version, and continuing to use the site after a change means you accept it.

11. Governing law and contact

These terms are governed by the laws of India. Questions about them, or anything else, go to our contact page.
