Sound credits & licenses

Every one of the 126 switch sound packs on this site is original audio, synthesized by us. Nothing is ripped from YouTube videos, desktop sound-pack apps, or other websites. That is the provenance problem that quietly affects much of the switch-sound ecosystem.

How synthesis works

A real keystroke produces up to four acoustic events: the slider's contact transient, the click mechanism (for clicky switches), the bottom-out impact, and the release clack, plus parasitics like spring ping and stabilizer rattle. Our generator models each event from the switch's published specs: type, forces, travel, click mechanism, silencing pads, factory lube, plus the published sound character, which is what decides whether a switch is voiced thocky, clacky or neutral. Sounds are labeled "simulated" wherever they appear, because that's what they are: a fair, consistent approximation designed for comparing switches, not a studio recording of one particular board.

Licensing

  • All current sound packs: © keyboardsimulators.com, original synthesized audio.
  • Planned: our own studio recordings of real switches, which we intend to publish under a Creative Commons BY 4.0 license so the community can reuse them with attribution.
  • No third-party recordings are used anywhere on the site today.

Everything else

  • Keyboard renders: our own SVG engine, drawn from public layout geometry (19.05mm/1u standard grid).
  • Colorway presets: original names with community-approximated palettes; trademarked set names are referenced only descriptively.
  • Fonts: Geist & Geist Mono (SIL Open Font License), self-hosted. Icons: Phosphor (MIT).
  • Switch specifications: manufacturer datasheets and established community measurement projects.

Brand names (Cherry, Gateron, Kailh, Topre and others) are used for identification only. This site is not affiliated with or endorsed by any switch or keyboard manufacturer.
