Sound & feel

Silent Red builds elastomer pads directly into the stem rails, cushioning the two loudest moments of a keystroke: the bottom-out and the upstroke slap. What's left is a soft, low thud that barely carries beyond your own desk.

The trade-off inherent to all silent switches applies: the landing feels slightly mushy compared to a hard-bottoming Red, and travel shrinks a little to 3.7 mm. Cherry's tuning here is conservative but reliable, which is exactly why fleet buyers and office IT departments standardized on it. Current retail stock is the MX2A revision.

Enthusiast silents like Outemu Silent Peach or Silent Alpacas now beat it on refinement, but Silent Red's availability and consistency keep it the default quiet recommendation for workplaces.
