Sound & feel
BOX Red wraps the switch contacts inside a sealed box structure within the housing, the design that gives the family its name and its IP56-class dust and moisture protection. A welcome side effect is a squarer, more stable stem with noticeably less keycap wobble.
The stroke is a light 45 g linear over a slightly shortened 3.6 mm travel, and the sound is clean with a mildly hollow note from the internal box geometry. Consistency across a batch is a BOX-family strength.
It suits desks where drinks, dust, or crumbs are a real hazard, and taller keycap sets that amplify wobble on conventional stems.
One caveat for old stock: for part of BOX's early production Kaihua widened the stem from 1.30 mm to 1.32 mm at a customer's request for a tighter keycap fit, and those switches were known to crack or stretch Cherry-profile keycap mounts, especially thin ABS. Kaihua reverted to 1.30 mm in 2018 and current production is fine, but be careful pairing an old bag of BOX switches with vintage caps.
