Gateron's KS-33 low-profile platform powers a large share of the slim mechanical keyboard market, most visibly Keychron's K-series low-profile boards. The Red variant is a light 45 g linear with roughly 1.7 mm pre-travel in a housing barely taller than the keycap it carries. KS-33 is Gateron's Low Profile 2.0 platform, and it runs longer than the KS-27 generation it replaced: 3.0 mm of total travel rather than the older platform's 2.5 mm or so.
The shortened travel gives the sound a bright, shallow clack and the feel an immediate, direct quality, closer to a premium laptop with actual switch mechanics underneath. Partial factory lube keeps the short stroke smooth.
