Sound & feel

Commissioned by PrimeKB and built by JWK, the Alpaca became the yardstick against which enthusiast linears were measured for years. Stock smoothness was its superpower: light factory lube over JWK's tight tooling meant most people ran them straight from the bag, an oddity in an era when lubing was assumed mandatory.

The sound is clacky-bright rather than thocky: a clean, poppy bottom-out that flattered the aluminum customs of the day. Note the spec convention: like most JWK customs, Alpacas are rated by their 62g bottom-out, with actuation landing around 48g.

Newer switches have since matched it at lower prices, but the Alpaca remains the historical reference point, the switch to try if you want to understand what "smooth linear" meant when the custom scene exploded.
