Tactile MX Grey exists for the same reason MX Green does: Cherry needed a stiffer switch for spacebars. Which boards it was meant for depends on the source. Deskthority pairs it with MX Clear builds, which is force-coherent, while Cherry's own blog says Greys usually sat under the spacebar on MX Brown boards. The bump profile follows the Clear's larger, firmer shape, but the spring pushes actuation to 80 g and bottom-out past 100 g.
As an alpha-key switch it is genuinely demanding, and full Grey boards are rare outside experiments and ergonomic-strength preferences. The payoff is a stroke with enormous authority and a deep, dense thud at the bottom.
